This is a grad school project for Southern New Hampshire University’s communications masters program.

The goal was to create a website dedicated to a form of cutting edge technology to explain it. While adjacent to the theme, this website is designed to explain a byproduct of a growing technology: Artificial Intelligence.

The term AI-Psychosis is a pop-culture term related to people growing out of touch with reality as a result of prolonged engagement in conversations with AI, specifically Large Language Models that take on the form of chatbots.

While used to describe a general form of disconnect, there have been several cases in which individuals who did become out of touch after long term conversations with Large Language Models ended up taking the lives of themselves or others. Below is a link to a podcast with a paired article that goes into some of the cases that are often associated with AI Psychosis:

This website aims to break down some of the factors surrounding AI Psychosis, and raise awareness for potential trappings, such as using Large Language Models for emotional validation, the dangers of doing so, what are the “signs” of someone falling into AI Psychosis, and what are the next steps.

Keep in mind: No one working on this project has any formal background in psychology; this is a research project with information backed by doctors within their respective fields, and not a guide for how to handle long term mental illness. If you, or a loved one feel unsafe, or if you’re in a mental state where you feel as though you are a danger to yourself or others, please contact the National Mental Health Crisis Hotline Number: 988, there are also more resources at the end of the “What Do I Do” page.
